Britney Spears father has petitioned to end her conservatorship:
Britney spears dad filed Tuesday to end a court conservatory that has controlled the singer’s life and money for 13 years.
James Spears has filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking the revocation of the Conservatory.
“As Mr. Spears said, over and over again, all he wanted was the best for his daughter,” the document says. “If Ms. Spears wants to cancel the Conservatory and believes she can manage her own life, Mr. Spears believes that opportunity should come to her.”
Judge Brenda Penny, who oversees the case, will have to approve the action.
There was no immediate response to an email requesting a comment from Britney Spears’ lawyer.
James Spears was angered by his daughter and the people surrounding the Conservatorship.
A petition from Britney Spears’ attorney to remove him will be heard at the next hearing of the case on September 29.
Britney Spears father James Spears said in a filing filed on August 12 that she was planning to step down as finance conservator, but did not give a timetable. He relinquished his control over her life decisions in 2019, leaving only his role of overseeing her money.
Britney Spears’s father repeatedly stated that there was no justification for removing him and that he acted only for the best interests of his daughter.
The Conservatory was founded in 2008 when Britney Spears began a series of public psychological struggles, with every moment the media was engaged, the paparazzi followed her aggressively everywhere, and she lost control of her children.
Filing on Tuesday, Britney Spears intercepted those who wanted to free her from it by quoting from the transcript that afternoon an “impassioned request” to end the legal arrangement in her June 23 speech in court.
“I want my life back,” Britney Spears said. “And it’s been 13 years and it’s enough. It’s been a long time since I owned my money. And it is my desire and my dream to end it all without testing.”
Notes filed on Tuesday said she did not know she could file a petition to end Spears Conservatorship, which she has yet to do. The decision to allow Penny to hire her own lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, proves that the court can trust her with major options, it said. And it says there is evidence that she has clearly “demonstrated a level of independence” by doing things like driving herself around Southern California.

It also illustrates her desire to make her own decisions on therapy and other medical care.
Spears said in his June 23 speech that he would take some take drugs under conservatism and use a cervical device for birth control against his will.
James Spears called for a court hearing on these and other allegations because they were issues beyond his control, as he resigned as his daughter’s person’s conservator, handing over the role to a court-appointed professional couple, Montgomery.
When Rosengart, Britney Spears’ new lawyer, hired him in July, he said he wanted to help end the Conservatorship, and questioned whether it needed to be established first, even though he had not yet filed to cancel it.
He said his first priority was to get rid of James Spears, who challenged him to resign on the spot in his first appearance before the court.
Rosengart filed for dismissal of James Spears on July 26, alleging that his daughter had mismanaged money and affairs and that he had used the Conservatory for his own gain. The judge rejected an urgent hearing on the matter, saying it could be heard by the September deadline.
The lawyer said he welcomed James Spears’ suggestion that he would eventually retire but did not reduce his efforts to remove him.
Spears gave credit to the Conservatories’ early existence for sustaining her career, although she has now suspended her work altogether for two years.
Fans objected to her condition and those who saw the pop star begging for help in Instagram posts started calling #FreeBritney online and protesting outside her court hearings.
Famous names from Miley Cyrus to Britney Spears to former Justin Timberlake have joined the protest in recent months, especially after the Spears couple made passionate speeches to court in June and July.
Penny, the judge with ultimate jurisdiction over the Conservatorship, had not been inclined to end before, but she too had not had such a clear opportunity.
