Photos posted by Reuters on Sunday showed Harris being greeted by Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

Harris left Washington on Friday night, boarding Air Force Two at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland before heading to refueling sites in Alaska and Japan before arriving in Singapore.

The Vice President is expected to use the visit to convey US views on China’s growing power and influence in the region – including the Communist regime’s efforts to gain control over the South China Sea.

After a long journey, Harris’ Sunday plans were not clear. On Monday, she is scheduled to speak by phone with Singapore President Halimah Jacob and attend a bilateral meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the Associated Press reported.

The AP reported that Harris and the Prime Minister were expected to ask questions from reporters at a US news conference.

She was reportedly scheduled to speak on a US warship in Singapore.

The vice president will deliver another speech in Singapore on Tuesday focusing on US plans for engagement in Southeast Asia. The AP reports that she will also discuss supply-chain issues at a meeting with regional business leaders.

Later Tuesday, Harris leaves for Vietnam. The trip time was embarrassing for the Biden administration, as the crisis in Afghanistan drew many similarities to the troubled US withdrawal from Saigon in 1975.

This is Harris’ second foreign trip as vice president since visiting Guatemala and Mexico in June.

Next Friday, Harris is scheduled to campaign for Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in California, facing a recall attempt later this year.
