“I am deeply saddened by the news that the American government is withdrawing from Kabul and that the brave U.S. military contract working dogs are being tortured and killed at the hands of our enemies,” American Humane CEO Robin Ganzert said in a statement. “These brave dogs carry out the same dangerous, life-saving work as our military work dogs, and they deserve a better fate than those who condemn them.”

“It hurts us to see these brave dogs who have bravely served our country being killed or kept worse,” the statement continued. “To prevent this tragedy, these K-9s should be stored in any cargo area where they are not in use.”

The group urged Congress to “classify contract working dogs on an equal footing with military working dogs.”

American Human has expressed their willingness to assist in the transportation of dogs and lifelong medical care.
