Highways England tweeted that the eastbound carriageway between A659 Junction, East Junction 44, A1 (M), and A659 Junction at Islington was reopened at 4 am yesterday (Thursday) morning after a fire broke out.

Urgent work was done to repair the carriageway and remove the 100-ton crane.

There are diversions taking the eastbound lane on the A64, then head back over the market town Todcaster to join the A64 after this incident.
Crane fires were extinguished by the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The A64 closed at 7.50 am yesterday after a fire broke out.
